Mary A. Lehman
Mary A. Lehman is a native of Prince George’s County who has spent 20 years working to improve life in and around Laurel. She served on the board of the West Laurel Civic Association for 16 years, including four as president (2005-2009), and is active in the Bond Mill Elementary PTO, where she has served since 2002 on the legislative, hospitality, carnival, and playground renovation committees. She first got involved in grassroots politics in 1992 as a spokesperson for Citizens Against the Stadium, a group that fought for two years to stop the Washington Redskins from building a 78,600-seat football stadium in East Laurel. A former journalist who covered Congress, she has worked since January 2003 in state and county government, currently for State Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk (District 21) and previously for Prince George’s County Council Chairman Tom Dernoga (District 1). Ms. Lehman graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School (1982) and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Maryland College Park (1987). She is a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Burtonsville and lives in Laurel with her husband and four children.
